The supremely-talented New York starlet and the newest Forces sweetheart, Nell
Bryden releases the title track from her self-funded album - an eclectic blend
of retro rock
‘n’ roll is the order of the day.
Bryden is the latest big voice to hit the music scene and with a rags-to-riches
story to boot, it
’s clear
Having stumbled upon an antique painting in her attic, Bryden sold the precious
work to bankroll her music dream, and so the world got to hear
‘Second Time Around’ - and this track pretty much epitomizes what the listener can expect from the
confident belle.
It’s fast, it’s catchy and features all the signature sounds of old-school rock ‘n’ roll. A catchy piano laces the Southern-style track together as Bryden’s soulful and ranged voice jumps between verses, singing about someone who let
her down on the road to fame.
Her voice is indeed beautiful, but somewhat inhibited by the constraints of a
studio as live performances testify. Still it
’s a great retro track, symbolizing all what was great about the 50s phenomenon -
and that
’s no mean feat. 8/10 CM
