The most followed lady in pop releases the title track from her new album, but
who
’s running the show?
‘Circus’ is the aptly-titled name of Britney Spears’ sixth studio album and the lead single somewhat epitomizes what her life has
become:
“All eyes on me / just like a circus / don’t stand there watching me, following me”
It’s typical Britney with a power-packed-pop beat, not a million miles away from
lead
Looking deeper, lyrically it is perhaps a thinly-veiled attack at the paparazzi,
which is cleverly disguised with comparisons to the performing side of
circuses. Though if it is, it
’s not from Britney’s mouth as another tune penned for her by the powers that be.
Production credits are courtesy of pop mogul, Dr. Luke – responsible for numerous smashes from the likes of Kelly Clarkson and Avril
Lavigne. And what he has created is a new-age Britney classic with all the pop
appeal of yesteryear, mixed with the edgy underpins of her current work.
Some may even argue it’s better than her previous, though perhaps lacking that can’t-get-out-of-your-head aura. Still, a fine example of top pop from a performer
head-and-shoulder above the ocean of pretenders.
