So we are nearly coming to an end in Beijing and what a spectacle it has been– numerous World Records and Olympic Records lie in shards, various stars have been born and who would have thought it– to date 16 gold medals for GB. This shouldn’t surprise as many as it has, considering the multi-million pounds worth of British money that has been pumped into the Olympic bid. Still there’s no stopping bad losers in sport and Australia will fit nicely into that category after their indifference to the UK effort.
Track
OK he may not be on drugs but Usain Bolt is one fast dude and at only 22, will surely be flying the Jamaican flag at many a future Games. Had to laugh about the disqualifications in his “favourite event”, both 2nd and 3rd reassigned for not running in their lanes– does alcohol count as a performance-enhancing drug?!
Very interesting regarding the Chinese track-star who disappointed his adoring fans by breaking down with injury and limping out. Of course had China expected him to win, maybe they would have let him hold the flag at the opening ceremony... Food for thought.
BMX
What a fantastic event– this should have been added years ago! Wonderful work from the British lady, Cheshire’s very own Shanaze Reade to recover from that nasty fall to hit a hot lap straight after– that’s what the Olympics is all about. Anyone who saw the Road to the Olympics programme the BBC ran before the festivities will no doubt be ecstatic for Reade who plied her trade on the streets to start her path to glory.
Taekwondo
I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem on Live Feed 5 at five o clock in the morning. A fascinating sport and quite difficult to comprehend for a novice– exactly what an Olympic sport should be. My money’s on the Korean for obvious reasons, finally a sport China aren’t very good at.
Shooting 10m Air Pistol
You have to wonder how long it’s gonna be before the Olympic Committee cut out the middle-man and just let them play Quake against eachother, or Call of Duty for the more up-to-date first-person-shooter.
