2008 - The Football Year Review
Team of the Year- Manchester United, Inter Milan
In one of Ferguson’s most successful years, United scooped the Premiership, European Champions’ League and Club World (Mickey Mouse) Championship. Though an embarrassing loss to Zenit St. Petersburg in the Super Cup was a hiccup.

Manager of the Year- Phil Brown, Harry Redknapp
Never since Nottingham Forest has a team that’s been promoted had a chance of the Title. A good year for Harry saw him win the FA Cup before reviving Spurs, though Brown has downed the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool without a bulging chequebook.
Player of the Year- Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi
Ronaldo had a phenomenal 2007/08 by anyone’s standards. Messi certainly did not hit over 40 goals, yet the Portguese has struggled at times this season.
Best Goalkeeper- Iker Casillas, Edwin van der Sar
Casillas has, as usual, been outstanding for both club and country, scooping the European Championships with Spain. Van der Sar is having a twilight at the end of his already-glittering career.

Best Defender- Sergio Ramos, Nemanja Vidic
Ramos had a great year, lifting the EC’s and La Liga. Vidic also enjoyed success with United.
Midfielder of the Year- Xavi, Cristiano Ronaldo
Xavi was the creative force in the Spanish midfield and has continued that top form under Guardiola. A real big-game player, unlike Ronaldo but with an eye for goal.
Forward of the Year- Fernando Torres, Sergio Aguero
Whilst Aguero revisits Torres’ footsteps at Atletico, Fernando has tasted glory under Spain, netting the winning goal in the final, following on from an excellent debut season at Liverpool - instantly adapting to the English league. Aguero will of course be one to watch in 2009, when he leaves Madrid...
