I think the first thing to say is that this week’s ‘Super Sunday’ was both entertaining and lived up to all the hype– truly competitive and gripping.
I probably dislike United more than most but if there really is a supposed backlash from them not playing well, Chelsea certainly felt the brunt of it. Surely Fergie must have been scratching his head wondering why they didn’t show this much desire against Villareal and Liverpool.
Personally I think it’s always difficult for a side to do the biggest domestic double any club side could dream of and then have to go back to playing Bolton and Wigan week after week. Maybe Chelsea and United should go form a league of their own eh?
So what does it all mean in the grand scheme of Premiership things? Not an awful lot to be fair– the draw wasn’t a bad result for either side and both had chances to take what would have been undeservedly more than their play warranted. For United, they need to get their act together and build on this result. Injuries to Van Der Sar and Hargreaves should be irrelevant what with Berbatov’s arrival and the return of Ronaldo.
Chelsea of course will need to continue their good form to compete with both United and Arsenal. Liverpool? Don’t get me started, only Ian Wright would be dumb enough to tip them for the title, this one’s a triple threat. Maybe ‘Pool should get back Roy Evans for league games?

EPL Week 5 Winners and Losers

Cristiano Ronaldo– proving why he can not be considered the greatest in the game with so much dishonesty in his play.

Tottenham cannot get a win against credible opposition for love nor money. Newcastle turned in yet another loss as the club’s future continues to hang in the balance.

Portsmouth– out of sorts and ran ragged by a team they should consider their equal (yes Portsmouth have spent a lot of money too).

Stewart Downing– Englishmen can’t take penalties, ok?

Arsenal, yet again, overcoming a resilient Bolton with class & style. Manchester City taught Portsmouth a lesson with a 6-goal hammering.

Hull City were unlucky not to beat Everton and are proving along with Stoke City, who got a fantastic 0-0 at Anfield, that Derby County’s performance last year was a club simply not prepared for Premier League (or Championship, so it would seem) life.

Blackburn, Sunderland and Aston Villa pick up important points– all winning their various endeavours. A special mention to Franco Zola who has hit the ground running with a debut win, even if it was over Newcastle.
