Arsenal: B- Wenger’s side are without Fabregas, Walcott and have reported problems with Toure and
Gallas. They will need to put all their cash to good use this month but are
still only 10 points behind. Added to succes in Europe makes a saveable season.
Aston Villa: A+ Life is pretty sweet for the Villa, chasing the top 3 and still in Europe and
the FA Cup. Though it
’s a small squad at Villa Park and you wonder whether they can keep pace as
injuries hit.
Blackburn: E Paul Ince’s legacy may still see the club reside in lower quarters next season, though I
would expect Big Sam to steady the ship somewhat, especially with the Window
open.
Bolton: B Megson may not be popular with the fans but he is getting some good results.
Though their place just under the top half may be deceiving, it has still been
a relatively decent season for the Trotters.
Chelsea: B+ Chelsea’s problem is that they need to improve or watch it all slip away as has the
needless Carling Cup. A tough Champion
’s League draw and depleting league performances mean a tough ‘09.
Everton: A Moyes’ side began horrifically but have since formed into a tough and able team. If it
hadn
’t of been for the start they may well be flying higher.
Fulham: B A top-half slot is not undeserved but it is still their home form that has
granted that status. Hodgson has done well indeed.
Hull City: A My Manager of the Year had, as his Chairman acknowledged, a phenomenal 2008. I
do wonder whether 2009 will be as prosperous though...
Liverpool: A+ Liverpool’s only concern will be that they should be further ahead. Still success in
Europe and domestically gives fans the best hope for seasons that this may well
be the Kop
’s year.
Manchester City: D Out of both domestic cups and underachieving in the League will not be what the
Dhabi group envisaged.
Manchester United: A Ferguson has ensured his men have kept pace, if not exactly blowing away the
opposition. Though the wily old Scot will surely be confident that his team
will fire more when it matters. Still in every competition too.
Middlesbrough: D The most Jekyl and Hyde team in the League. Southgate will need to keep them up
at the very least. The future of Stewart Downing is an unnecessary cloud on the
horizon and should be flogged for as much as possible.
Newcastle United: C He’s done decent work ol’ Joe. Now with the club’s future seemingly more secure, a decent ‘09 could be in store.
Portsmouth: C- Whichever way you look at it, it’s not looking too bright down South. They may have received pots of gold for
Defoe and Diarra but with the alleged debts of the club, actively up for sale,
an inexperienced Tony Adams will struggle.
Stoke City: C- They will no doubt have expected this and at least they still have more than a
chance of surviving.
Sunderland: C Not too great considering the financial outlay but still should be OK.
Tottenham Hotspur: D- Rome wasn’t built in a day, though Madrid may take more to rebuild in a few months. Ramos’ legacy leaves a team still in all competitions, somehow. Still with endless
pots of gold going missing, bottom half ain
’t great.
West Bromich Albion: D Rock bottom ain’t ideal but there’s more than enough time for Mowbray to save the day.
West Ham United: C+ Zola’s side find themselves the picture of mediocrity, ask any Hammers fan and they’ll moan.
Wigan Athletic: A Mr. Red Face has quietly turned the Latics into a mid-table team, even with
Titus Bramble... impressive.
